Middle School Language Arts education covers the skills involving reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing. Individual classes focus on reading comprehension and fluency, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, writing processes, speech, poetry, and research. Each grade level reviews previous learning and builds upon that learning to further develop and become proficient readers, purposeful writers, critical thinkers, and effective communicators. A variety of texts are used including fiction and non-fiction novels, short stories, poetry, and vocabulary workshop books.Some of the books used include:
6th Grade:
Sadlier Vocabulary A, Where the Red Fern Grows, The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe,BFG, Brian's Winter, Number the Stars, and more.

Meet the Teachers

My name is Katie Schumann and I will be your child’s Language Arts teacher this year! This will be my 25th year teaching with Mary of Lourdes School. My husband, Keith, works in the street dept. for the city of Little Falls and is on the Little Falls Fire Department. Our son, Justin, works at Thielen Meats here in town, and my grandson, Klaus, is in Mrs. Primus's 1st grade class!My shining moment in the classroom is to watch those light bulbs turn on for students! When everything clicks and students are engaged learners! Since LA is my passion, I look forward to many more of those "Aha!" moments in my classroom!
I believe Mary of Lourdes is truly a community. I spend more time with both the staff and students than my own family during the week- it is truly my home away from home!
My husband and I like to play cards and go out to eat with family and friends. We enjoy taking cruises or vacationing with family and friends. In the summer we do a lot of canning and hanging out with the grandkids. Other than that, I enjoy reading books on my iPad, reading with my grandson, or having Disney "movie marathons" with the grandkids!

Hey there! My name is Mary Gondringer. The 2024-2025 school year will be my third year teaching at MOLCS and eleventh year teaching overall. I graduated from the College of St. Benedict with a degree in education, English, and music, and a few years later, I obtained my Master’s Degree in English: Rhetoric and Writing from St. Cloud State University. I am truly blessed to be part of the MOLCS team! After spending the majority of my career in the public education system teaching English to middle school, high school, and college students, I heard God calling me to the Catholic school. I enjoy sharing my faith with my students and helping them become the best version of themselves. My greatest goal as a Catholic school educator is to help my students understand that they are Jesus’ hands and feet and that they too can be disciples of Christ.
This year, I’ll be teaching a few English and art classes, as well as all of the MOLCMS music classes. I have always had a God-given musical ability and am very excited to bring my talents and love of music to our Mary of Lourdes Catholic community! My mama always said, “When you sing [or play an instrument], you’re praying twice.”
When I’m not teaching, you’ll most likely find me behind a camera, photographing mostly engagements and weddings, and the occasional senior or family. If I don’t have a camera in my hand, I’ll probably be road tripping around America (always searching for that next big adventure), learning a new instrument, or partaking in one of various hobbies my grandma loved (crocheting, canning, gardening, sewing, etc.).
I live in the country near Albany (in my childhood home!) with my husband, Andrew.
