November Newsletter

November Newsletter

Dear Parent,

It is amazing that November is upon us! The students continue to work hard! We began our first day of quarter two today. The reports will be sent home on Friday.

Our Middle School will be having their annual Veterans’ Day Program on November 11. The third and fourth grade students have been invited to it. It is always a privilege to attend this wonderful tribute. Please sign and return the field trip permission slip.

This week we will read about the importance of honoring those who have and are serving our country. During November we will also read books with a Thanksgiving theme such as The First Thanksgiving, Molly’s Pilgrim, Giving Thanks, Thanksgiving on Thursday, and a variety of other Thanksgiving stories.

Our first month of “Book It!” is finished. Students may turn in their sheets this week. If the October goal wasn’t met, just encourage your child to start fresh on the November sheet. Now that it will be dark earlier in the evenings it is the perfect time to read more! The book order that is being sent home is due on Friday.

In math will have just started chapter three which is subtraction with regrouping. It would be great to have you work on math facts at home with your child. I am seeing several students count on their fingers. Knowing the math facts by heart is important! If you don’t have flashcards at home a deck of cards can be used.

In social studies we are learning about the people who first lived, explored, and settled in North America. One of the lessons is about an English Colony in Jamestown.” This will link us with the reading we will be doing about the Pilgrims so the students can better understand the hardships they endured as they began their lives in America.

In religion this week we will study chapter eight, “We Pray to the Holy Spirit.” We will learn how the Holy Spirit is our guide and helper. Through the wisdom of the Holy Spirit we grow in our understanding of the Catholic Faith. Thank you for taking time to help your child with the homework that is sent home with each chapter. It is a way to motivate students to discuss the chapter with you and to deepen their faith. Our class will lead the Mass on Wednesday, November 26th.

Let’s remember to pray for the election and the men and women who are serving our country here and in other countries. During this harvest season and as Thanksgiving awaits us, may we be mindful of the many blessings God grants us each day. Thank you for the wonderful parenting that you do and for sharing your child with me!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Witt
